![]() Aside from the bali beds on the beach, and perhaps the more intimate setting, all other factors give the edge to Now Onyx over Dreams. The preferred club at Dreams offers Bali beds on the "preferred" section of beach which are very nice.at Onyx, rental of these types of beach and pool accommodations is an extra charge. The many of the bars/food along the pool were closed in favor of the beach end.which for our occupancy levels was plenty. Dreams is a smaller and seemingly more intimate resort, with essentially a single "length of the resort" pool, most populated at the bar/beach end. However, the preferred lounge at Dreams was near the beach/pool and open, and a nice benefit. Due to occupancy, not all restaurants are open and they're doing the best they can. The COVID experience at Dreams, in their preferred club, was similar. The preferred only restaurants themselves were closed at breakfast and lunch, as near as we could tell. The breakfast and lunch "preferred" dining options transformed into a slightly altered a la carte offerings in addition to the standard buffet options available to all, and served in the same restaurant, with a reserved space. The open preferred lounge was near reception, and really not too convenient during the day. One of the preferred lounges (near the pool) was closed due to COVID, and that would have been a really nice option. Many of the preferred benefits are restricted due to COVID. Other benefits of preferred give you access to a preferred only pool area, two preferred only lounges, and slightly different dining options for breakfast and lunch.and a butler (more on that later). We upgraded to the "preferred" program, but kept our non-preferred room (which was fine if you don't mind a short walk to the pool). More expensive options offer private pools, porches and decks adjoining the preferred pool area. We booked a non-preferred pool view room at Now Onyx (least expensive) and it was fine. All good though, so you won't go wrong anywhere. The restaurants at Breathless and Now Onyx are excellent, with a nod to the hibachi grill (Silk City) and steak house (The Strip) at Breathless over their Now Onyx counterparts, while the Italian (Capers) and French (Mercure) were excellent at Now Onyx. ![]() It is also adult only, so many of the spaces will not allow kids there. Breathless has more of a "spring break" feel, catering to a louder and more energetic crowd. Breathless and Now Onyx share all their facilities, so they really are essentially the same resorts, with very different personalities. Now Onyx and Breathless are adjoined, so really there are three AM Resorts within 400 yards of beach space. That said, we passed on any offerings, enjoyed the "gifts" but don't regret the sales trip. They NEVER run in the 90 min, but everyone was courteous and we took a look at Zoetry.which is beautiful, and very serene. Like ALL resorts worldwide, there is going to be a sales pitch if you decide to go. We booked through Delta vacations, and the transportation from airport to hotel was simple, and ontime. We chose Now Onyx, just as a new place, and literally right down the beach from Dreams. Dreams, Now Onyx, or Breathless? We recently stayed at Dreams Punta Cana in Jan 2021, and came back to the Punta Cana deciding to try another spot. So many places to choose from in the DR, and the people across the board are super friendly-So which one to choose? If you're looking at AMResorts. The restaurants at Breathless and Now Onyx are excellent, with a nod to the hibachi grill (Silk City) and steak house (The Strip) at Breathless. ![]() ![]() ![]()
